Thoughts from the February 9th dinner meeting
Hertzler Systems "Turning Data into Knowledge"

I think we all believe that collecting data without analyzing it is of no
value and analyzing data without developing cause and effects relationships for
process improvement is a waste of time.
The Hertzler System software allows the user to collect data from a number of
different sources and develop control limit flag indicators. It identifies real
time opportunities to make corrective action based on the cause and effect
analysis. These opportunities are displayed on monitor pop-ups, dashboard
displays, and email notification to name a just a few. The Hertzler System
software then continues to assess any effects that corrective action taken or
other process variations has in the "system" to maintain the desired output.
It is a valuable system that we use at BAE Systems. The presenter, Tom
Albrecht, did a great job.

We had 46 attendees representing ASQ and SME. Combined meetings with another
local professional organizations continue to be a success and I will look for
additional opportunities in the future. As always, I am always open for
suggestions. Contact me at Mark Maffey 260-434-5410 or

CONGRATULATIONS:
Megan Pape and Maureen Kennedy attended the February dinner meeting for free.
They recently passed the Certified Quality Auditor exam and took us up on our
offer. A recent certification equals a free dinner meeting. Just let Jim Smith
know when you register.

Presentation:  Turning Data into Knowledge

In today’s manufacturing environment there are many sources of data.  In some cases there is plenty of data and not enough information for making business decisions.

Measurement devices, OPC Servers, database applications, files and miscellaneous keyboard data each represent a data source.  For many, these islands of information represent a challenge as projects require information from multiple business systems.

How can Quality or Six Sigma professionals perform the Herculean effort of collecting, scrubbing, analyzing and reporting on product, manufacturing process and transactional process data?  How can variation be located and addressed in a timely manner?

In this presentation, we will discuss how companies resolve these issues with seamless and accurate measurement solutions.  The solutions require a combination of strategy, culture and tools to drive business transformation.
